Donald W. Kress, MD, FACS, is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and the founder of Plastic Surgery One and the Kress Cosmetic Breast Center. The two clinics offer high quality plastic surgery for patients who want to improve their look and their quality of life through a cosmetic procedure.

Experience

Dr. Kress obtained his MD degree in 1976 from the West Virginia University School of Medicine. He completed a year-long General Surgery internship and a full General Surgery residency at the Milton S Hershey Medical Center. This was followed by a two year Plastic Surgery residency before gaining his board certification from the American Board of Plastic Surgery in 1982. He also completed a Microsurgery Fellowship in San Francisco working with the legendary Ralph K Bunke, MD. Dr. Kress is an active member of The American Society of Plastic Surgery, The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, The prestigious International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, The American Society for Lasers in Medicine and Surgery, along with local and regional societies. He is on the clinical faculty of the Milton S Hershey Medical Center. In all, he has over 28 years of surgical experience.

Personal Care

Innovation

Dr. Kress remains active in research and was one of only a handful of the original clinical researchers for the new and innovative Cohesive Gel (gummy bear) breast implants. His work with these implants resulted in several TV appearances including MTV and Fox5. He is now active in research using Ultrasound to treat and prevent capsular contracture, one of the most vexing problems of breast implants. He holds the position of Clinical Advisor to several companies involved with the breast industry. Dr. Kress feels that international participation is essential to keeping current on the latest developments in the field of Plastic Surgery. He was in Brazil when one of the most innovative tummy tuck procedures was first presented and in South Africa when a very successful “mini facelift” was first introduced. To that end, he has participated in educational programs in Russia, Brazil, South Africa, Europe, and Canada. He was the only American Plastic Surgeon to be invited to the opening of a new clinic in Georgia (Near Russia) by two of his friends Dr’s Sulamanidze.  Dr. Kress is working even harder to improve communication with his patients by incorporating an Ipad and visuals into his consultations.

Choosing a Plastic Surgeon

1. Check on Board Certification (MUST be certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties). Many of the official sounding “Plastic Surgery Societies” have little or no requirements for participation and even less follow up of their members.
2. Try to communicate with former or current patients.
3. Check on Hospital and clinic affiliations.  Hospitals have rather strict requirements so some surgeons can only do work in their offices.
4. Check on experience, don’t be afraid to ask “How many of these procedures have you performed?”, “What were the results?”, and “How often was a second procedure required?”
5. Trust your intuition.  Dr. Kress is emphatic that every one of the patients coming to him to correct a problem from another surgeon knew in their mind that something was going to go wrong.
6. If the staff is rude, the office is unattractive, or the Doctor is preoccupied, check elsewhere.
